Police want to ID 2 in forged check case

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — Police need your help in finding two people in connection with a forged check case in the metro.

According to Blue Springs, Mo., police, these two women entered a Gordman’s, 1270 NE Coronado Dr., on Jan. 30 and may have used a forged check to purchase more than $100 worth of merchandise.

Police are looking for the women in connection to the case as people of interest and are not considered suspects at this time.

Man, 51, Charged with Stabbing His Wife

BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. — A 51-year-old Blue Springs man has been arrested on charges of stabbing of his wife on Monday night, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced on Wednesday.

Willie E. Shepard, 51, faces domestic assault first degree, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon charges in connection with the stabbing.

According to court records, a witness told police that Shepard entered a room at a motel around 8 p.m. Monday, where his 36-year-old wife was with a female friend, when Shepard and his wife began to argue.

The 51-year-old tried to persuade his wife to leave the room with him, the witness told police, and when she refused, he pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times.

Prosecutors requested a $250,000 bond.

At last check, Julie remained in the hospital in critical condition.

Three Men Charged with Attempted Power Line Theft

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker has filed charges against three men who damaged and attempted to steal a power line in Independence .

Anthony L. Laycock, 32, of Louisburg , Kan., Derek L. Rudroff, 30, of Overland Park, Kan. , and Louis C. Hauenschild, 25, of Overland Park , Kan., face a misdemeanor Attempted Theft charge. In addition, Hauenschild has been charged with Property Damage 1st Degree, a Class D felony.

According to court documents, the men were connected with a power line cut near 40 Highway and Valley View Road on Monday, a cut that could have disrupted power to many Independence customers. Damage caused was estimated initially at $25,000 or more.

Prosecutors recommended a $5,000 cash-only bond.

Another service they provide is the Kansas City’s Most Wanted Newspaper. The Most Wanted Newspaper is a great way to inform our community on wanted individuals, as well as allowing our community to assist law enforcement with information that will lead to their apprehension.

I have attached the July version of the publication. Take a moment to review the photos and if these subjects are seen or known, call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. These wanted subjects are neighbors, coworkers and walk amongst us daily.

Police Seek Help Solving Cold Case

On March 30, 1989 officers were dispatched to a vacant apartment building at 1414 E. 14th Street regarding a non-breather. When the officers arrived they were directed to the location inside the building where the victim's body was discovered. The victim had been assaulted and murdered inside the building.

The victim was last seen leaving the downtown area of Kansas City, Missouri heading home a couple of days before her body was discovered.
